8 Ohm vs. 16 Ohm

What are the advantages of 8 Ohm vs. 16 Ohm, or visa versa, in speaker selection?

16 ohm was originally done due to tube amps liking higher impedance.

If you research you will find old 24 ohm stuff from early days.

8 ohm pretty much came in with solid state.

So a short answer is typically 16 ohm for tubes and 8 for solid state. From there the plot thickens and a myriad of directions we can go.

As I have a Mc 240 driving my speakers I guess I made the right choice with 16 Ohm drivers.
